How many of us have a box of oranges in the fridge that we need to replace every 3 months but don’t know how long it will last? When our fridge starts to feel new and strange, we know we’ve been around too long. Every time I cook or bathe, I’m always amazed at how familiar the drum is and how well it can be used for both. But lately, I’ve learned that this little box offers tons of beauty uses for baking soda, thanks to its non-staining, non-irritating alkaline formula for sensitive skin. Here are some great ways to use your new Frigidaire BFF!

All these toothpaste brands are paying crazy money for the latest and greatest whitening toothpaste. Before you brush your teeth at night, sprinkling baking soda on your damp brush and brushing in a gentle circular motion will save you money by whitening those puppies several shades. However, this is not a long-term process, and it can wear down the tooth enamel. You should also avoid mixing baking soda with teeth whitening because it can have a very strong effect on your enamel.

When was the last time you changed your shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, or dry shampoo? We have dead brands that everyone is loyal to. But when we use the same formula over and over again, they build up in our hair. Just because we wash our hair doesn’t mean the product is gone. Even shampoos that soften the hair (silicone) and have a nice smell build up and become difficult to use after a while. The next time you shampoo your hair, put half a dollar in the palm of your hand and sprinkle some baking soda on top. Lather, rinse, repeat…just kidding, but make a good lather and rinse. It will eliminate all these products and you will notice a huge difference!

Here’s Thomas Dolby’s “Science!” That’s what makes this thing fun! Mix baking soda and water with a little paste and apply it on your freshly washed face to even out your skin tone, remove blackheads, and help get rid of adult acne. Rinse with cold water and then moisturize your skin. Baking soda helps to dry out acne and unclog pores by removing tiny dead skin cells and impurities.

If you have an insect bite or sunburn this summer, you can take a nice cool bath with 2-3 cups of baking soda. It soothes the skin and helps relieve irritation. Ditto if you have dry skin in the winter! Baking soda helps to soothe cold cracked skin. If you’re not ready for a full bath, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 cup of cold water and then wipe it off with a towel. Apply a washcloth to sunburn or insect bites to relieve pain and itching.
A nasty little bee stung me several times last night. Luckily, I’m not allergic, so I’m not in any danger. However, the bite was so strong that I needed help. We didn’t have any anti-bite medicine (and we couldn’t find any for itchy hands) but we remembered that baking soda is soothing. After applying a thick paste of baking soda and water to my hand, the pain subsided and the throbbing stopped after a few minutes. Although there are many ways to get rid of stings, this one comes to mind. This simple household tool saves time.

Cuts or cuts are two big ways to introduce germs into your life, and you’re going to get a little sick in the process. Apply a 1-1 ratio of water and baking soda to the cut area and gently massage with a nail brush to immediately exfoliate the dead skin and leave your hands smooth and healthy.
